Mindfulness Exercises

Mindfulness exercises serve to train us to be present in all aspects of our being, whether physically, emotionally or mentally. The result is increased peace of mind.

What is mindfulness?

Applying our mind fully to our inner and outer reality.

Conscious presence with experience is mindfulness.

What about mindfulness meditation?

One would need to define meditation as a step further than concentration, going further in so as to become a ‘witness’ to these conscious experiences.

What is the purpose of these exercises?

The easy process allows us to witness the ‘coming and going’ of the incessant thoughts and emotions and not 'get on the train' with them.
This process, setting aside some time to do just that, provides a ‘window of opportunity’ for silence where one can just enjoy one’s life!

This free meditation e-course introduces us to mindfulness exercises .

To me, these methods include a training in awareness of what we perceive in our outside reality as well as our inner space, so we also want to notice the outer world during our practice.

This is actually a great time to set aside for the mind and body to rest, that one looks forward to after a short period of practice.

Ajahn Brahm, an English Buddhist teacher, recalled how he had helped a lady who was suffering from great anxiety.

“I asked in which part of her body she felt the panic attack? She said she felt the tightness in her chest. I asked her to relax her chest and give it some kindness.

“Don’t try to attack the emotion directly because the mind will loop on itself, like what happens when I put a microphone close to a (hifi) speaker.

“Instead, find the corresponding physical feeling and soothe that. It’s easier to address the physical symptoms than the emotional ones.”

The Mind-Body Training Company includes this process that they generously offer in their free e-course meditation.

Well worth making a part of our daily life!
